Ripardella / Caiarossa Winery - Italy
I have long heard about a winery in Tuscany whose owner, Eric Albada Jelgersma, used the principles of Feng Shui for its construction and use.
A great friend of mine went to Tuscany at the end of 2010 and I asked her if she could visit that winery and check it out for me.
Caiarossa, in the Tuscan hills, Italy, has around 900 km2 and there is a river that runs through the property, Cecina River.
The owners used the ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui to produce wonderful wines. The secret was to bring harmony to the harvest using nature and the right directions for plantation, which originated a super differential in the consumer wine market.
The concern for this project was to use a holistic approach of integrating the vineyard, the landscape, the environment, the Earth, and the Cosmos to get a purer product.
They used techniques from some different Feng Shui schools, and their vineyards face directly Southeast towards the Tyrrhenian Sea, from where one can smell the sea breeze.
They produce eleven types of grapes including reds of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre grapes, and the whites like Chardonnay, Viognier, and Petit Manseng.
The abundance of the diversity of these types of grapes is due to the care of respecting the lunar and planetary calendars, restrictions with the use of pesticides, and it is also about not using chemical fertilizers, only special biodynamic compounds.
The barn was built respecting concepts of Geobiology and Feng Shui, with appropriate colors for this place in shades of red and yellow so that there were both balance and the representation of the colors wine, soil, and sun.
Best of all, my friend brought a few bottles of red and white wine so we could toast together her trip to this wonderful winery and, to spare, she also gave me two bottles!
The taste is incredible, absolutely divine, pure, and I am sure that all the special Feng Shui tips that were used make Caiarossa stand out in the world of wines.
It is worth checking it out!
But the best was still to come! In 2016, my husband and I decided to go to Italy and checked Caiarossa ourselves. It is simply fantastic! If you enjoy wine and appreciate Feng Shui, or if you are interested in learning new plantation technics, you should have this trip on your bucket list!
